More pictures of the new 2019 Toyota Corolla hatchback

Last Updated:

This seems to be very nice for what it is. A modern, rather unassuming and simple compact hatchback.

I am also glad to see the hatchback returning as simply “Corolla hatchback”.
And , to see a company that doesn’t give up on cars. This is a regular hatchback, without some fake raised up SUV look like the Focus Active will be.
The white leather/grey cloth seems pretty upscale for a Corolla.
Too bad for the ridiculous looking tablet on the dash. But at least, the rest of the interior seems pretty simple and well designed. (Unlike the new Focus)

Let’s hope this becomes a hit in the US and proves Ford wrong for abandoning regular hatchbacks, and cars in general.

  1. Toyota just announced investment in their US factory to build the new Corolla sedan.
The hatch could be built there as well, or come from Japan or even Mexico. But not Europe.

  2. I like it but i watched some video reviews and the deal breaker to me is the small cargo area and cramped rear seating.

  3. Being a huge hatchback fan, I'm actually excited about this. It's the first time I've liked a Corolla in years! Isn't this based on the Euro Auris? So it gets a double wishbone suspension?

(I had a Pontiac Vibe and it ran for 240k miles. It didn't drive well and wasn't very refined, but it had great rear seat AND cargo room (and I'm 6'1"). So it's kind of a bummer than the raked rear pillar seriously takes away from cargo space.)

  4. Most likely built in Japan, while the sedan is US sourced.

It would be cool to see a rally inspire version with AWD.

  5. Looks an awful lot like my 2012 Mazda3 Sport. Why would Toyota see it fit to copy a decade old design?!
