Buick Velite5

Last Updated:

As you can see, the Chinese Buick Velite is just a Chevrolet Volt with a Buick front end.
Why not. As Buick is super popular in China, they might as well…

Something strange is the mention above of “116km”.
Which translates into 72.5 Miles.
It makes me wonder if the Chinese version has an even better EV range than the Volt.
Which is officially rated at 53 miles in the US. (I easily got 56 during my week review)
Or they have a completely different way to calculate EV range?

A 72 miles EV range would be quite an improvement for the US version.
I mean this is almost as much as the all new (So new it’s not even out yet) “DOA Honda Clarity EV” with its 80 miles.

Except the Volt keeps going….

  1. The different EV range could be down to a different testing cycle. US cycles are generally among the more realistic ones (I'm European, unlike in the US no European figure for range or consumption can ever be matched in real world, usually not even close)

  2. Where in China is Buick popular? I spent five days in Hong Kong recently and didn't see one Buick.

Chine is Buicks # 1 market – the pretty much the exclusive reason they're alive in a post bankrupcy world. This said – they're gaining traction in NA as well now.

Just b/c you didn't see one – doesn't mean they're not popular there. Just means there are other items that sell more. If you have a billion Chinese driving 1/2 a billion cars – yet you manage to sell 500,000 in China – odds are slim you'll see one, but they're selling.
