2018 Hyundai Sonata

As you can see, there will be quite a bit of change for the Sonata next year.
(The current model is the orange one)

At least up front, where it already looks quite different.
(Let's hope it also gets a more interesting dashboard while they're at it)

The current Sonata has apparently sold well with previous Hyundai owners. But didn't reach that many people outside of the brand, like the more daring/interesting previous model did.

So it looks like they might be backpedaling a bit and make the current model more exciting for next year.

2018 will be a competitive year for mid size sedans.
With an all new Camry and Accord coming out.
These are the big guys everyone is trying to beat.

It's that time again already? It'll be interesting that Camry and Accord releases will not be staggered since the Camry's emergency 2015 redo. I always thought of the current hen Sonata as a mix of the 2006-2010 model and the last gen, making the wild styling more conservative, however, standing out is the name of the game now.

Looks like there is some Fusion going on in the grille.
That's a good thing - the Fusion is an attractive vehicle.

I LOVE the current Sonata--especially the interior. So much so that it wat the first Asian car I ever bought! The future one looks more like a Ford (whereas the current Sonata looks more like a Genesis.)

I rent Sonatas or Optimas nearly every two weeks. I truly dislike these things. Not because of the styling, which is inoffensive enough and much more striking than a Camry. But the engines are just awful. Buzzy, underpowered and poorly matched with the transmission. The interior is decently designed, but the switchgear is really bad. The cruise controls are terribly inaccurate and the A/C fan speed needs a lower setting. And hate the infotainment system.

Hyundai Committed to this refresh, shortly after the new model came out, and sales were way down.

They gotta stop putting that fucking chrome strip all the way down the side to the headlights. Nobody likes chrome. Chrome looks cheap. Seriously, cut it the fuck out car companies. We know it's really plastic. Just use proper shutlines and matte plastic around the windows and be honest.
