2017 Kia Niro video

Last Updated:

Sure, the plastic on the door panels look pretty shiny and hard.
Still.
Compared to the new Prius, this seems much, much more upscale. And especially better looking.
Just look how they even used a bit of white plastic on the console, and it doesn’t look like a bathtub!
(Unlike the urinal inspired console in the Prius)

The whole thing looks really good, inside and out.
The fact that it might get 50 miles a gallon is just icing on the cake!

I mean the new RAV4 Hybrid (Probably its main competition) gets “only” 34/31.
It also costs over $28 000 to start.
I’ m pretty sure Kia will easily beat both of these numbers.

This also made me think about the all new Hyundai Ioniq, which is based on the same platform. Uses the same power train. But is even lighter and more aerodynamic.
If the heavier Kia gets 50MPG, the Ioniq numbers could be quite amazing.

I really don’t think lower gas prices should hurt these too much.
As I said before, you’d have to be an idiot to think this will last forever. (Or at least all they way to the end of your 5 or 7 year car loan)

Not everyone has $55 000 to spend on some large trucky SUV, no matter how cheap gas gets.

  1. Burlapp, you are a joker for putting that stupid music with this boring video.

The concept and market niche are solid.

But the design is super conventional. Correct but boring. Not sure its enough to move the needle, but hard to say anything negative about it.

  2. It's not just the good mileage with this … it looks actually desirable – like you would not be ashamed to be seen in it – and also practical, spacious, and nice. The mileage is just icing on the cake.

And it's likely to come in at a good price point.
Kia really has me thinking it is not so embarrassing to drive anymore.

  3. What the hell is with that music. This is the one time in my life I can say Nickleback would be better.
