Laziest redesign ever: 2016 Audi Q7

Last Updated:

This what we get after 9 years.
A big A3 hatchback.

And it doesn’t even look like an SUV or a crossover anymore. Just a slightly bloated wagon.
I mean, it was expected. As Audi has been doing this for years. Using the same design for everything.
Still, their current and upcoming models are just squared off versions of what we’ve seen for years.
It’s never new. And it’s getting sad…

And from what I saw with their Concept at the L.A show, the future looks like more of the same.

While the designers were asleep, it looks like the engineers actually did work. The new Q7 is about 700 pounds lighter tun before. And an all new Diesel Plugin Hybrid version will be available.
(But probably at such a premium price that it will be ridiculous to get one…)

Goodbye, “old” Q7. You will be missed…

  1. So true. This is a very boring, sad "design." It's as if VW and Audi are really trying to sell us anonymous square boxes. Every ounce of style has been removed. I'm half expecting them to change the names to Car1, Car2, Car3.

  2. pretty much the only nice thing I can say is the interior design looks great, previewing the direction of Audi's new-gen interiors.

  3. Wow.. that's just a shame. The front is just weird and bland, and the rear could just as easily be a Passat Sportwagon. Gone are any semblance of elegant curves.. can't wait to see how they try to distinguish the next Touareg from this.

  4. I thought the reason this took so long to come out was that the new head guy didnt like the redesign and makde them scrap it and go back and do a new design. So how bad was the design they were going to use?
Maybe it looks a lot better in person.

  5. I agree with Ben, the interior looks amazing…for audi/vw… since sadly the "old/current" Q7 has a sad interior and navigation smart screen, however

The design is so horrible that the new front end just looks like the sad "all road model."

The "old/current" Q7 has an amazing commanding front yet, one that strikes fear into anyone who sees how masculine and strong it is; I would hope to hell it never hit me in an accident.

This new one better be a mistake and glitch in news. It is so pathetic, that if I had the money for a car like this, I would gladly buy the "old/current" Q7 right now, and deal with a custom Nav smart system from best buy.

  6. Usually, Audi vehicles look better and have more presence in person than they do in pictures, but I'm not so sure this new Q7 will. It looks much too bland in pictures to translate into a conservatively handsome vehicle in the real world. I'm not sure this redesign would appeal to a diehard Audi fan/enthusiast.

Maybe the time has come for Audi to thoroughly shake up its design department.
