Geely GC9

This looks pretty nice.
And I am not adding “for a Chinese car”. It just looks pretty good.

This is an all new large sedan from Chinese car maker Geely.
They has been a new rumor about Geely selling cars in the US as soon as 2016.
But they have claimed the same thing since 2008…
Most of all, they are famous for owning Volvo.

Not sure where this was designed, but it looks like a nice alternative to the Toyota Avalon and similar models.
If sold here for thousands less than its competition, I thing it could have a chance. (If the quality is there that is…)
Poer comes from a 2.4 Liter with 160HP. Or a 1.8 Liter Turbo with 180HP and a 3.6 Liter V6 with 270HP. Pretty much in line with what we’ve got over here.

Would anyone here consider this if it was, let’s say, about $5000 less than an Avalon?
What do you think?

  1. If in that market I doubt I would be an early adopter of it, but I would consider it after a short while if it had a heck of a warranty and a solid dealer network.

That same thing, however, goes for any new car on the market that doesn't come with a solid history of quality and reliability. It's pretty much the same reason I would not buy an Audi or Volvo here – am not gonna waste time being stuck due to their sloppy engineering and manufacturing.

  2. Geely? No. Volvo is having a difficult enough with that affiliation already. No one wants a Chinese car, for a number of legit reasons.

But this looks good. Not surprising, as it's already on the market. People can buy a Malibu or Optima right now.

  3. It would just be nice if someone could design a car with an original design for a change. This car, Chinese or not, just looks like an amalgam of every other car on the market. Maybe all we really need is one universal automaker if all they're going to do is all make the same vehicle. So unoriginal.
