2016 Ford Explorer

Last Updated:

Ford is making quite a big deal about this, but there isn’t that much new stuff.
IThe usual revised front/rear. A new engine. The 2.0 Liter is replaced by the Mustang’s 2.3 Liter (but with “only” 270HP here).
There is a new top of the line version called Platinum. Which should be really expensive.
(I mean a loaded 2015 Limited model is already over $43 000. )

Here is the current model. The new front is actually less original.
And the interior is pretty much the same, except for some trim bits. And revised dials and nobs.

  1. The grill looks like a throwback to the 1990s. It's a little much, in all honesty. Something about the scale of it is off too. The foglights look nice though. The trim at the bottomn looks terrible, IMO. It draws attention to the 3 inches of ground clearance and I'm surprised it survived the photoshoot. Out back it looks even worse. And manages to highlight the reflectors, for God's sake.

  2. Ford is still in shock as to how few of the current "all new" Explorers sold compared to Traverse, Encore, Acadia, Grand Cherokee. Even Durango sales soared last year while Explorer just sat on the lots.
