2015 VW Golf Sportwagen (US)

Last Updated:

These are pictures of the US version, which will be shown at the New York Auto Show in a few days.

As you can see, it looks the same as what is available in Europe now.
And they kept the “Golf” name as well. (It was going to be called just VW Sportwagen)

So it looks like VW will be spending 2015 pushing the Golf name. With the new “regular” Golf and this wagon version replacing the Jetta Sportwagen.
There is also a rumor about he GTI being renamed “Golf GTI”. (As it should be…)

The new wagon will be available with the same engines as the new hatch. 1.8 Liter Turbo or new 2.0 Liter 150HP Diesel.

Although the Diesel does sound pretty exciting (especially since it will still be available with a 6 speed manual). The new 1.8 Liter gets excellent mileage. ( even though rated at 36MPG Hwy I got 43 in my weekly test drive a few weeks ago. In the Jetta Manual)
So I’m not sure the diesel is worth the extra $3000 anymore.

I am glad to see that “leatherette” (plastic) isn’t the only choice for the interior anymore. And the glass roof is still there (!)
The bad news:  The new wagon won’t be available until “first quarter 2015” in the US.
That’s almost a year away! For something that is ready to go now.

(What the hell???)

  1. The car looks great. At least we're getting the wagon here in the US. So few carmakers offer a wagon anymore and they are still a great option for family transportation. Not all of us want a crossover SUV! I would buy this.

  2. Fantastic looking car! I still don't understand why V-Dub wants to wait a year to unleash it on North America. VW has chosen to put out a "special edition" 2014.5 wagon instead. Wouldn't a new model sell better than a 5 year old pimped out version? I don't get it.
