All new SportWagen R coming up.

Last Updated:

The new Wagon version of the Golf will be getting the R treatment. Soon.

Which could be quite interesting. Since the new Golf R is making 290HP.
The R is coming over to the US. But who knows about the wagon.
We are getting the regular wagon here powered by the new 1.8 Liter Turbo and the 150HP 2.0 Diesel.

Should they send us the R version?
Is there even a market for this here?

  1. The good news is that the new SportWagen won't be marketed as a Golf or Jetta in the US anymore, so a SportWagen R could happen!

  2. I absolutely love the idea. However, Americans would have no appreciation for it. As much as I would want it here, it would get more love in Europe.

  3. The perfect car for me would be a BMW 335 station wagon (without x-drive)-or if I was feeling really indulgent an M3 wagon. Next on the list would be this bad boy.

  4. An R-Line Golf Sportwagon in the U.S. would probably have the 2.0 210 hp turbo 4 like the Beetle R-Line, the CC R-Line etc… I plan on buying 2015 Golf wagon anyway it is the perfect car for me to haul my dogs around in.

  5. First, the current Golf Sportwagon needs some revision. No matter what they decide to call it… it looks old..inside and out, but particularly from the back.

I dont think VW has figured out yet that American's dont really pay for those expensive panoramic sunroofs at the extent they find in their european customer base. A simple sunroof would suffice and not totally inflate the price of the vehicle.

There is a need for this size wagon here. And it should be branded either a Golf or Jetta… best to be a Jetta, not its own name. And what they could do to reinforce this model would be to have a nice cloth with some luxury option trim, optional leather – not standard; have an AWD model; and a sport model like this R. But the interior and exterior must be fixed first.

  7. Americans hate wagons… and yet Subaru does so well with them. Go figure! Maybe VW needs a wagon thats raised. Not a Tiguan.

  8. Like the Golf R, this would be a very limited production vehicle. They'd sell every one they make.

  9. Remember all R's are not created equal. Thete is the "R" and then there is the much more tame "R-line". Don't get these confused please.
