Mazda6 Diesel postponed for the US.

Last Updated:

We are getting the 2.2 Liter diesel version of the new Mazda6. But not before April now.
“To accomodate final emissions testing and certification” is the official word.

Apparently the 6 sells quite well in the US and it is currently in short supplies. Which is good news. So dealers will be getting 4000 more cars for the 1st few months of next year.

THIS is what we should be getting with the diesel engine! The great looking wagon version.
But no……

  1. Mazda has always designed nice looking cars. But they have also always been underpowered and noisy. That is why Hyundai is eating their lunch.

  2. Current 6 has 2.5 L, 184 hp, 185 torque @ 3250. I haven't driven it, but those numbers don't look underpowered at all.

  3. Mazda's current problem, besides not having that many dealerships, is their interiors. Too black, too stark. not particularly great places to spend a bunch of time. Once they get that cleared up, I think the 6 and other vehicles will really pick up lost ground.

Get rid of the orange and red glow dials. Go BLUE.
Get rid of the piano black overly done everything inside. Think inviting but sporty.
And get that wagon here. Followed by the new 2 and 5.

  4. I am fine with the Mazda interiors. In many ways Mazda is doing the right things…. continuing to offer manual transmissions, suspensions tuned for sporty driving (zoom zoom), focus on better fuel economy, and offering a diesel. What they are missing are some rather obvious signals from potential customers and not taking advantage of some market niches where there is demand and no product. First is the 6 wagon, second is a small truck (B2000 II), finally is a true sports car (rotary engine Miata – MazdaSpeed?). Signed dude with checkbook at the ready — come on Mazda ! JUST DO IT !

  5. The wagon looks much better than the sedan. I don't know of another wagon that can touch it in the looks department.

  6. I'm also eager for the Mazda6 wagon to reappear in the States.. but I fear Mazda will bow to the marketing "experts" and only consider bring it as a jacked-up, plastic-clad "Outback"-style CX-6.

I sure hope not. That 6 is the first wagon I've ever seen that I'd call sexy.
