Cadillac ATS-V?

Last Updated:

Seems that now, Cadillac does offer a new “Vsport” model in the 2014 XTS and the new CTS.
Which is not a proper “V” model, since it doesn’t come with a V8, but the new V6 turbo instead.

So this picture might be an ATS Vsport. Who knows.

I am actually not sure why they would even offer a big V8 in the ATS. Since the new V6 Turbo is already producing over 400hp.

  1. I want to like the ATS, but that horrible interior. It feels like the interior was designed by Mattel. GM, go study interiors more please. A serious car, like the ATS should have an intetior to match.

  2. The Corvette LT1 V8 (450hp/450lbft) and the 3.6L TT (420hp/430lbft) weight almost the same (about 465lbs). For reference, the BMW 4.4L V8 produces 400hp/450lbft with a mass of 503lbs.

But the LT1 V8 is a track proven engine with a lower center of gravity, due to a dry sump design, as well as just the plain fact that a push rod motor has camshafts placed lower which pushes the weight all the way to the floor. Further I believe it packages smaller in overall dimensions then the V6 TT. Might make a better fit in an ATS-V.

The marketing view may be to match the germans and produce the Twin turbo DOHC, to look modern. But the more I think about it, the LT1 might be the serious choice, with American flavor, and the difference in character needed in a crowded field of German brands.
