Infiniti QX test drive. Part one.

Last Updated:

I am driving this giant beast for the week.

So far, just a few notes.
It is as big as it seems. It stands out in a street where you park it where it usually the tallest thing around.
From the little driving I have been able to do so far, I can tell the ride is a mix of smooth and pretty hard, at the same time. Pretty typical of big trucks.
Steering is OK.
Interior is really luxurious (It should be for $75 000)
Looks like I won’t be getting much more than 12MPG driving around town…
And there is an annoying vibration in the steering wheel when the engine is between 1100RPM all the way to about 2000RPM. Not bad but enough to be noticed by anyone else but the driver.
1000 to 2000 RPM is mostly where you are when driving around town.

Will report again soon. Ask any questions you might have.

  1. With a slight mod this thing could be a Kenworth. Where are all the people now who ragged on the Hummer 4 years ago when it comes to non-US brands producing vehicles that are just as "absurd"????

  2. What you are looking at here is the vehicle used in extreme condition weather countries like Saudi Arabia for the last 40 years. It is used because of it's legendary reliability , quality and longevity. It is the Nissan Patrol. This is the best built large SUV on this planet. It is sold for about $15-25,000 less than the aged, poorly styled Lexus. Done deal!,,,,

  3. The vibration, if u know anything about cars, is a slight wheel balance issue. 20 min fix and its balanced. This can happen on any vehicle.

  4. I do know about wheel balancing and have experience that problem before.
This is NOT it. It comes from the engine itself and only from 1000 to 2000RPM. Has nothing to do with the wheels.

  5. The vibration is a known issue.

I've been thinking about this (though less optioned) to replace our 2006 MB ML350. The leftover 2012's are going for $9,000 off list, so can be had for mid $50's.
Vince, how's the around-view monitor? Does it help?

  6. Vince, you should take a SUV off-roading with regards to a review/report.

Taking the Infiniti QX all around town does not reflect its true capabilities. Why not consider taking it to the Mojave desert?

  7. These are nice, if a bit ostentacious/overwrought. Not as clean looking as say, an Escalade or Navigator. But far far nicer than any of the ancient and akward Lexus SUV's. Unfortuneatly for Nissan, Mercedes has FINALLY gotten their act together with the latest GL and puts ALL the Japanese models to shame! And if you can make do without a third seat; my all-out favorite SUV is still the Jeep GC Overland–by a mile!

  8. "Why not consider taking it to the Mojave desert?"

Take it to the Mojave desert and leave it there, and maybe burn it so it won't assault anyone else's vision ever again. This thing is a monstrosity. Was the designer who did this blind, or just fooling around that day?

  9. My question – why on earth would anyone want this overdone, oversized, ugly, cruddy quality product?

  10. The average owner of one of these sees off roading in the form of speed bumps while trying to find a pull through spot at their suburban mall.

  11. By far the ugliest vehicle on our roads. It looks like an angry retarded gorilla. Why bother with it?

  12. You are all typical loudmouth American arrogant people. You tube Nissan patrol in the dessert and see what it can do. It is 100% the same vehicle with a Nissan front end. Imbasils! This is the most revered off road capable vehicle made. For generations the Nissan Patrol has been The vehicle of choice for cash rich Sheiks.

  13. "12 mpg around town?"

This is obscene. There can't be a good reason for anyone to be driving a vehicle that sucks that much of the earth's resources all day long.

Yes, this also applies to exotic supercars that only carry two people.

  14. "You are all typical loudmouth American arrogant people. "

And you are typical unintelligent third-world losers who barter with livestock, poultry and whores. Who cares what you think? For those who live in developed countries, it's obvious that this this thing is hideous.

  15. "Imbasils! This is the most revered off road capable vehicle made. For generations the Nissan Patrol has been The vehicle of choice for cash rich Sheiks."

If you are going to insult people, at least learn how to spell correctly. BTW no gives a f*ck about your tacky sheiks with bad taste.

Yes, typical war mongering red neck, incestuous Americans hahahaha

  17. The U. S owes sooooouch money to the Arabs and the Chinese because you people are moronic spenders. In truth, the great United States are An Arab state.

  18. It's refreshingly optimistic to hear people arguing over cars again instead of politics. People rarely kill one another over automotive aesthetics!
