2013 Mercedes GLK

Last Updated:

Not all new, but new enough to make it better.
I never liked the current model, with its overly blocky styling inside and out, and rather cheap looking interior.
This revised version seems a bit better, as well as more aggressive and original.
The interior isn’t all new, but the changes make it look more like the new A and B class models. Which is a good thing. It also looks more upscale.

This is the current , and rather horrible looking, model.

  1. For those who cannot afford a MB, but want to be caught inside one, this is a compromise, but not a very attractive one.

  2. I've always loved the GLK. I can't wait for them to drop down in price so I can pick one up.

Vince, this apparently is going to be getting the four cylinder diesel shortly as well. Mercedes has some of the best diesels in the industry, and how can you say no to 30+MPG?

  3. I've rented one of these. I wasn't prepared to be impressed, but I was very impressed with how it drove. The base price is very reasonable. But if you add options, which you always do, then it's stupid expensive for such a design-challenged SUV.

  4. This has always been a de-contented basic Grand Cherokee with cheaper 4wd system and cheaper suspension (than Jeep). The blocky styling was a HUGE IMPROVEMENT for Mercedes over any SUV they attempted before. This new "softening" is slighlty LESS desireable to me; but still a marked improvement over the M & G SUVs that came before it. Argueably overpriced; but if it were a great value, it wouldn't be a Mercedes. All in all, still one of the best-looking Mercedes' to date. Ownes will be satisfied (as long as they never climb into a JGC Overland)

    What? What??? WHAT?!?!

The GLK has absolutely nothing to do with the GC. No platform sharing, no components shared, no powertrains shared.

As to the "softening", seriously, this isn't soft at all compared to the other MB SUVs. The Overland really isn't that great. It has a stitched leather dash and real wood, wow, that's great.

You have no idea of what you are talking about. None.

  6. This looks much nicer, inside and out, than the old version. The interior is very nice and the new diesel engine should be a great alternative.
I do find the ML to be much more attractive as well as the right size for a Mercedes SUV. This thing is tiny, with odd proportions, when you see it in a parking lot. It looks like a tall, overstyled hatchback when viewed from the rear.

  7. A four-wheeled flotilla of bad taste. A tour-de-force of terrible. I didn't think it was possible to make the most ham-fisted car on the market get any worse but alas! They've succeeded! Now it has dropsy-eyes and a bulging herniation of a chrome-hole. Ghastly!

  8. Which is the Mercedes that was "co-developed" with the Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee? This or the new M? It's been awhile since I read the article on the development of these Chrysler-Dodge-Mercedes SUV's. The M seems more similar size and proportion and handeling-wise. Anybody know?
