2013 Lexus RX

Last Updated:

For once, I think the revised front end is a huge improvement.
the new “Lexus Face” works much better here than on the new GS, where the grille doesn’t line up with the headlights. Which makes the whole front end look off and weird.
I think this makes the RX much more attractive than before.
And I am sure plenty of people will just hate it…

Here is the current one.
With, I think, much less personality.

  1. I agree. Though I'm not a fan of this grill design, it kind of looks like the face of the predator from that movie with Arnold, it does work allot better on the rx

  2. HUGE improvement.

I completely agree with you, Vince. It went from one of the least attractive to the most attractive.

  3. Either Lexus is abandoning restraint or they have opted to jettison their current demographic customer base with this hideously designed front end.

  4. Agree but the back is now bit disjoint. They should have made similar more aggressive looking changes in the back as well.

  5. It went from one of the least attractive to the most attractive

REALLY? I've been looking at the BMW x3, x5, Jeep GC Overland, Navigator, Enclave, '12 M-class, LR4. Not sure which I will buy, but never considered the Lexus. I agree that it's less homely than before, but still has no chance of getting on my list. Too many competitors are just so very very much better in every way. And they look it.

  6. I guess its an improvement over the previous look (best described as 'stupified') but this looks like they took inspiration from the VW/Darth Vader commercials…and did a terrible job. Darth Vader suburbanite wannabe's, your soccer Mom car is ready.

  7. I hesitate to call this an improvement. The original grille is bland and expressionless because it has no character lines. But the new one looks very "Scream." If this is what we get when Toyota attempts style, then I think I prefer bland and invisible.

  8. best selling? not much longer…. the Acura RDX will tear this up, by taking over duties as the dullest looking Toyota vehicle in its class. At least Acura redesigned it, not just the front bumper.

  9. if you've ever driven one, you'll know… otherwise, you'll just complain about this or that. and that is what might be most impressive about this vehicle; its a top seller in spite of it's appearance.

personally, think the facelift and the current are not that far apart in appearance; its more the racy silver v. conservative white…

WTF are you talking about guy?

This was a MMC, and not a FMC as that isn't due for two more years. The RDX is a FMC, as it has been on the market since mid-2006.

The RX will crush the RDX, and regardless, they aren't even in the same class.

  11. "if you've ever driven one, you'll know… otherwise, you'll just complain about this or that. "

My colleague has one. She jokes, calling it a tampon dispenser on wheels. Her husband hates hit. She doesn't love it or hate her RX, but really wanted an Audi. The Q5 was a little too small and not available in the configuration she wanted anyway, the Q7 was too large. So she got this in a rush because her lease was up and this was available.

And that's who buys this. The people who just need something.

  12. The Acura RDX and this RX are both testosterone-sapping vehicles. They should come standard with a pair of pantyhose for driving

  13. "She doesn't love it or hate her RX, but really wanted an Audi."

Obviously you made this up. But let me play along and suggest that the reason she really bought it is because the hybbie did not want the repair bills of the Audi…

  14. Lipstick? More like braces on a pig.

Why is "best selling" a virtue when the uninformed public buys all of them and an insult when rental car companies buy them. (who obviously research and buy only those they will make the most money on during the first 2 years of ownership)

And since when is "best selling" a virtue of a luxury item? Should people avoid a unique, upscale, premium restaurant to have a greaseburger at McDonald's just because McD's is the "best selling" food???

In my experience, best-selling is never good for the buyer, only the seller!

  15. "And since when is "best selling" a virtue of a luxury item? "

Because every single car becomes an appliance after the hard on is gone and the repair bills start. Cars by nature are liabilities. And you cannot compare them with food. A Lexus is not a greasy cheeseburger. The RX is a high quality automobile that happens, for my taste at least, to have average driving dynamics and design. I would rather own an Audi, but I do not want the repair bills. In my opinion something that has below average reliability is low quality, commonly referred to as a clunker.
