2013 Buick Encore = US Opel Meriva?

Last Updated:

Sure, nothing is exactly the same, when you compare the teaser released today by GM and the small Opel,
everything is very similar. Down to the crease on the edge of the hood.

And they are both (as well as the new Sonic) based on the same Gamma II platform.
We will know for sure in just a few days, but I think it would be quite a gutsy move for Buick to offer an Americanized version of the Meriva. There is nothing like it over here.
It could definitely bring young families into Buick showrooms.

Here are some pics of the Opel, with its original door system.

  1. The Encore seems bigger than the Meriva. My guess is that the Encore is based on the next generation Opel Antara… That's right : the Encore is in fact the new VUEick!

  2. I'm not sure, I know this is nothing to go by but the door mirrors look more like the ones that used to be on the Antara/Saturn Vue. Buick said it's going to be a small crossover thingy as well :/

  3. C'mon, you're reaching too far – it's just a re-packaged Saturn Vue (originally the Opel/Vauxhall Antara)

  4. vince don't get your hopes up. it seems more likely to be a rebadged version of the chevy captiva than the meriva…

  5. I like it when automakers think differently. This isn't over the top, but it's different enough to be interesting.
