Hyundai Veloster video

Interesting video from Insideline.
Where they even mention that the dark grey matt finish of the car shown in Detroit is actually a real option.
Has to be a first on an affordable production car.

  1. Uhh, that is hot.

That car is hot, that color is hot. 40MPG and a true successor to the CR-X? I can't wait to drive one.

This all coming from a BMW driver. Not all of us are elitist snobs.

  2. I didn't understand the comment about the color. What's so special about matt grey? Non-metallic paints remind me of all the awful colors Ford offered in the 80s – flat baby blue, flat tan, flat powder grey, etc. UGG!

  3. i really like this coupe. I like the front end, though I don't find it overall attractive? Perhaps its the aggressiveness, and the total package (the rest of the car) included, very cool! Love the side and rear profile, love the rear lights, and the front end sort of reminds me of the Nissan GTR for some reason. Can't wait to see one in person.

    Guy, are you that clueless?

This is MATTE, as in NOT REFLECTIVE. You are talking about non-metallic, which is completely different.

The colors you are speaking of still had a clear coat with a polished finish. This coating has no sheen.

  5. So, I did some research on matte paint. Apparently, it's something that tuners do to their cars when they've run out of things to do. It's almost impossible to do right, highlights every imperfection, and is a bitch to maintain.

    Yeah, *I'm* the clueless one.

I don't think you understand this type of paint. It's the difference between going to the paint store and buying Gloss finish or Eggshell finish. Cars have historically had gloss finish, including Ford cars in the 80s. The popular style for show cars today is eggshell, which has a dull chalkboard finish.

I believe that you're thinking "pastel" colors that were popular in the 80s. They were still glossy. They were nothing more than colors diluted with white to create a softer color.

  7. Matte finish reminds of of rat rods in primer. This has to be one on the worst new trends, even worse the n spinners.

  8. At first I didn't like it. Thought the style is a little overdone. After seeing the videos, it's starting to grow on me. Looks better in video than in pics. Good job Hyundai. Can't wait to see the reviews..
