2012 US Passat Video

I think it does achieve what many are looking for.
An affordable sedan that looks more upscale than its price.

On this video, at least, it does seem more like an Audi. And it does look expensive.

I think there will be quite a large market for the car.
Not everyone wants something as modern looking as the Kia Optima.
There is still something to be said for understated luxury…

  1. So wait, Toyotas are terrible and ugly and dated according to the blogger and enthusiast masses, yet new VWs look "upscale"?

This is a terribly bland design that looks like it came from the 90s.

Why the double standard when it comes to Toyota and VW?

  2. Yeah 90's design (although we had more interesting cars then).

Notice the back resembles slightly the previous gen Honda Accord and the rest is a mix but mostly a supersized Jetta.

Audi's at least have a more aggressive front.

  3. "Why the double standard when it comes to Toyota and VW?"

It's bland. But not in the same way as Toyota. This is understated, Toyotas are just dorky. I don't necessarily like this, but the design is much more intelligent and looking and stately than a Camry.

Wishing VW would push the envelope a bit more though. A little less "chubby American" and a little more "teutonic German" would be nice.

  4. If it didn't say passat on the rear i would have sworn it was the jetta, and from a distance no one will ever know u spent thousands more than a jetta ! also friends dont let friends buy VWs !

  5. Please… You can save all the 'understated' rhetoric – This Thing's Just Boring/Dull/Mundane, and will probably prove to be even less popular than the current Passat.

Push the envelope like the Kia Optima. No thanks. VW tried the whole Teutonic German thing in the Passat CC. It doesn't sell well at least not relative to their goals. If you compare this with the Euro Jetta, it isn't hugely different. Just a little de-contented and fewer engine choices.

My wife would love all the extra space in the back for us to get it on.
