2012 Honda Civic coupe evolution

Last Updated:

On the other hand, there has been some more drastic changes to the coupe.
Which pretty much looks like a totally different car.

  1. I hope it's at least more reliable than the current model. I know 2 friends that have them and each has spent more time at the Honda Dealer in the first 3 years than our old Caravan has spent in TEN (203,000 miles). And neither of these people has even hit 50k miles yet! The one says they spend more on tire than they save on gas. The other says that even with getting a $6500 settlement from Honda they STILL would have been money ahead buying a new Chevy Cobalt instead!!!

  2. Ummm that looking f-ing awesome.

That is SO much better than I was expecting it to be. I hope Honda has some good powertrain and MPG news.

So this isn't as big of a disappointment after all.

  3. looks like the child of the current civic coupe and the last gen accord. Not bad. Not ground breaking (which the current gen civic was sort of when it was introduced) but it will compete well in its segment.

  4. It looks like it went on a diet and started working out, no more chubbyness and now muscular and athletic !

    Bull_____ story.

They should have bought a Cobalt instead of a Civic? Laughable.

There is a 500,000+ mile 2006 Civic on 8thcivic.com and there are MULTIPLE that are over 300,000 miles.

Your story is a flat out lie. TWO friends? Consumer Reports rates the Civic as one of the most reliabile vehicles you can purchase, PERIOD. Honda as a manufactuer is the most reliable manufacturer as a whole. TrueDelta and JD Power also have found out the same.

As for your Dodge? Chrysler group rates AT THE VERY BOTTOM for JD Power and Consumer Reports dependability and reliability studies, and TrueDelta puts them in the bottom three.

Your story is bogus, and even if it isn't that is TWO people versus millions.

    Not reliable? That is laughable.

  7. "the problems get exasperated."

Yes and no. However these aren't just people who had minor issues. Honda's problems are more than just a hundred people on in a single chat room. If you noticed the 2001 Civic has over 800complaints on that one link alone; over 600 for transmission falure. That's just one site among many. The 2006 Civic also has a growing engine problem. Something to do with poor casting and it cracking later on.
This new Civic was delayed a year because it wasn't competitive with the cars that are out now and now Honda has a quality problem too.
I'm sorry but Honda's aren't what they used to be.

  8. Sorry – but when you sell THAT many, you're going to have problems.

So now Honda is rationalizing poor design and shotty quality but stealing a few lines from the 1985 GM Press Kit????

If that line doesn't work as an excuse for companies making a LOT more cars than Honda EVER has (Toyota, GM, Ford, –even Chrysler(worldwide)) Then how come it's an "acceptable excuse" for Honda???

  9. Hmmmm GM passes a KNOWN engine flaw for the 2000 Grand Am's / clones that knowingly allows rad fluid into the engine causing it to need replacing….this is somehow the same as Honda having some flaws? Give me a flipping break.

As for what is an acceptable margin? There isn't one…however from a ratio perspective, I'd rather be Honda with a 1% problem – then GM / Toyota / whatever other company with a 5% problem…simple math / ratio's.

  10. "GM passes a KNOWN engine flaw for the 2000 Grand Am's / clones that knowingly allows rad fluid into the engine causing it to need replacing….this is somehow the same as Honda having some flaws?"

Actually Honda's problem is worse because it's happing on newer Civic's 2006 and on, the problem makes the engine unrepairable, and it's more prevalent. Not a good sign when you have to use a 10 year old car to find a similar issue. You have to question Honda's quality control. Major transmission issues on 2001-2005 Honda's, now major engine problems on recent Honda's and on top of all that the new Civic was delayed a year for being non-competitive.

There is a problem at Honda.

  11. I actually know 2 people personally affected by that '10 year old problem'…it cost them each $2500 for a used engine (by the time it was installed)…that money was completely out of pocket as GM didn't cover a dime. Those people were still also making car payments on said cars.

  12. "Not reliable? That is laughable."

Yea dude. The newer civic's are kinda crappy.

From 2001 on they're pretty bad.

Not a fan of 'em anymore.

Sorry – but when you sell THAT many, you're going to have problems. No car is flawless. I've never known one person to own a Honda (and I know a bunch) and they've never complained about quality…put a hundred people into a chat room who have had issues -and the problems get exasperated..just that simple.
