Notes from the show: Cheap Town & Country interior

Last Updated:

This is one of the all new Chrysler interiors for 2011.
Better than before, but still plenty of cheap looking and feeling plastics.
And tacky plasti-chrome everywhere.

Not there yet…

  1. From what I have seen of the NEW Chrysler products, I'd say they are an adequate match for Hyundai's last generation. But compared to what Hyundai and others are producing for 2011, the new Chrysler is dead on arrival.

  2. What's up with that seam in the dash for the airbag? Chrysler pioneered the seamless dash and now they are going backwards? Yuck.

  3. This is seriously junky looking. This is the worst domestic brand, by far. And it's worse than most Asian brands. I don't have much hope for chrysler.

  4. I don't believe you guys, Chrysler improved ALL their vehicles, how can you even think the Town was not improved??
You don't like Chrysler, so you must rant!!

  5. "I don't believe you guys, Chrysler improved ALL their vehicles, how can you even think the Town was not improved??"

Yes. But I think the point is that they still aren't good enough.

  6. "I don't believe you guys, Chrysler improved ALL their vehicles, how can you even think the Town was not improved??"

Yes. But I think the point is that they still aren't good enough.

  7. What's up with that seam in the dash for the airbag?

That's the glove box door — idiot!

When the glove box door in the Rolls is in the "first/half-latch" position it looks the same way. guess I better have one of my guys drop the Ghost off at the scrap yard because it has "chrysler quality" everywhere.

You guys really need to start comparing Chryslers with cars in the $50k on up league– you'ld be much more impressed–instead of petty & jealous. I can have any car I want any time I want and my last one was an Overland and my next two will be a T&C and a 300c long wheelbase. For the same reason I bought the big Jag sedan & the last (bangle) 7-series. They just look way better then their generic competition. Any cars that look as good as the new Chryslers are a steal at the prices these things sell for (expecially compared to what I paid for the last sculpture I bought– and that has no practical use whatsoever.

If you're gonna critique the big toys you gotta grow up and view them from the vantage of the big boys. Then you'll start to see what so many of us see in the sveldt new Chrysler style!

I suppose you think Carver's latest yachts are poor quality compared to a metal fishing boat from Sears too!

  8. New facts & reality are never enough to cancel old prejudices & bias.

In reality these vans are the best-looking in the industry–inside & out.

But in some minds they haven't changed since 1984.

And Chrysler can't help those people.

It's call trying to rationalize the purchase of a slug (Oddity/Sienna-Previa/etc)

  9. I'm going to join the Chrysler defenders. This is Chrysler's most important product, and the only one I'd seriously consider buying.

It's the most practical and nicest looking Minivan. Nothing extreme or excessive, and the interior (which was one of the weaker points about the vehicle) is much improved. Yes, there's nothing amazing about the design, but it's now pleasant and acceptable.

I love the idea that both rows of seats fold flat, and I'm amazed that other carmakers haven't done copied that feature.

  10. "What's up with that seam in the dash for the airbag?

To the idiot Chrysler fan boy, who has obviously never seen any of the new 2011 models in person, and keeps posting 58 million times a day here :

Yes it is the glove box door. And it is in the fully closed position.
I tried, but it wouldn't close any tighter.
Same thing with the other Town and Country they had on the show floor.
And when open, it felt even cheaper.
Sure the dash has soft plastics, but most trims are still cheap and tacky.
Sorry to burst your small bubble, but the Toyota, Honda and new Nissan vans all have higher quality interiors.

  11. Hey Vince, let me try to help you out here…

They improved their interiors from the absolute worst in the industry to not even mid-pack, with the exception of the GC which has a competitive interior.

They didn't move the bar much, but they moved it a bit which is commendable.

    Old prejudices and bias???

How about you check every single comparison test from any reputable automotive publication. The Chrysler twins haven't won a single comparo in over 10 years now. They DON'T make the best minivans any way you look at it.

Going off of old prejudices again; why don't YOU take a look at what JD Power, TrueDelta, and Consumer Reports all have to say about Chrysler as a company, and these vehicles. Pay close attention to RELIABILITY, consumer satisfaction, and overall ratings.

Chrysler as a company rates at, or near the bottom of all three of those INDEPENDANT sources. All of which use statistically sound research methods that are unflawed, unbiased and can't be argued with.

You are an idiot, plain and simple. Your writing, spelling, sentence structure, and grammar all indicate that you don't have the money to purchase an Aveo let alone a Ghost. You can't convince anyone that you are wealthy or educated, I literally laughed out loud when you started talking about your "latest sculpture".

    Get real.

Chryslers interiors are so poor they can't even be compared to what is in their class, why are you even talking about vehicles $50,000 and beyond?

Their svelte new style is a direct rip off of their competitors and their new "logo" is an abomination and I wouldn't be surprised to see Aston Martin sue them for infringement. It looks like a 5th grader made it in MS Paint with a picture of Aston's logo right next to his netbook.

  12. The reality is, if anyone can say that a shot of plastichrome trim and fake woodgrain suggests "quality," then they are either completely high, or they haven't been in an Ford, GM or VW vehicle lately. These brands are the current non-luxury leaders. Honda, Hyundai and the newest Nissans are within the next tier. The new Toyota Sienna interior is pretty poor actually. Visually, from the pics here, I'd rank the Chrysler about the same.
