  1. Why on earth would they kill the Caravan in the first place? It's still a market leader by a long-shot. Let's hope it stays that way.

  2. I hope we see a MiTo in the future, or something like it… maybe the Dodge B Segment vehicle?

    I don't know.

Ford is going to have the Fiesta, as a sedan and "5-door", early next year..and possibly the next generation Focus, in USA, too.

So they get rid of the Caliber…for a sedan only?

Biggest complaints? 2-3 years? New items? Maybe longer?

  3. Almost all of this is great news.

The Caliber is the most miserable vehicle in its segment next to the Sentra.

The Patriot and Compass are all based off of the Caliber, enough said. Terrible vehicle overall, and the interior refresh is barely an improvement.

The current Liberty is the biggest half assed effort I have seen from a major manufacturer in at least 20 years. 210HP from a 3.7 liter V6, and the same terrible dynamics from the last Liberty?

Challenger a REFRESH!?!? Dated model needs to be a FMC and not a refresh.

6.4 liter V8 for WHAT?! Focus on more efficient engines and don't just make them bigger for no reason.

    Chrysler is a joke.

  4. I knew it and told you they wont kill Dodge Caravan as its the most money making car for Doge in Canada.
    hhehe I was right.

  5. On paper this plan is quite interesting. I'm particularly looking forward to the Fiat 500 arriving in North America.

However, I have serious doubts as to whether Chrysler will remain a viable entity long enough to see these "Fiat" plans through to fruition. It will be at least two (2) years (ie, 2012 models) until we start seeing the first new models rolled out. Then it will take an additional two (2) to four (4) years for the rest of the important models to be introduced (ie, 2014 to 2016???). Chrysler continues to see its sales slide while everyone else seems to be leveling out or seeing improvement in sales. With sales in free fall and a lackluster line up for at least the next four (4) years Chrysler will likely need additional financial assistance from the US and Canadian governments if it is to survive long enough to see this plan out.

Seems like a long shot to me.

  6. Something tells me the Nitro will be repackaged as a compact CUV to slot in below the Journey and compete with the Escape and Equinox.

  7. November 4, 2009 12:46 PM: NO, YOU'RE A JOKE! A Company the size of Chrysler (now even bigger with FIAT) has to appeal to a WIDE variety of niches. From 1.1L Fiats to 450HP Lux Sedans and Police Cruzers. Try to pry a broader depth of knowledge into that narrow mind of yours. (BTW, have you ever looked at the vast variety of micro cars made by FIAT? It's more than Toyota & GM combined! They're desparately short on mid & full-size sedans & trucks however)

  8. I'LL BELIEVE IT ALL WHEN I SEE IT.

+ I knew they wouldn't kill the Grand Caravan…..that would have been suicide.

  9. Didn't think thaey were stupid enough to kill the Caravan..But stupid they are. Fiat is for mental children.

I am well aware of what Fiat provides, I fly back and forth between DC and Frankfurt twice a month and have been a perennial 1K member with United.

Fiat doesn't make more small vehicles than Toyota, please check their Japanese website to see the list of Kei cars and smack yourself in the forehead.

By the way, a niche is a small segment.

Please do some research and don't try to argue with someone who knows far more than you do.

6.4 Liter V8 is for men not little girls.

Men that need to prove that they are men, being insecure with their manhood, such as yourself.

  12. November 5, 2009 6:04 AM: Actually I was disagreeing with you! If you don't understand why a product (450 HP Hemi) is made, then you probably aren't part of the target market. That doesn't mean that there is NO market. Take you head out of the clouds and contemplate that for awhile.

  13. V8 is for men who actually work and not those who live home at mom's and hate all things strong and powerful.

By "work", do you mean white trash rednecks who live in a trailer and work on a construction site? I can see how an uneducated hillbilly would need a V8 to tow a trailer full or shit filled porta-jons to the next job site.

I don't need a V8 to commute to my corporate office nor do I need to bog through muck because I have a masters degree and am capable of finding a high paying job.

  15. TO: November 6, 2009 10:44 AM, who said: "I have a masters degree and am capable of finding a high paying job."
–Not at one of my companies, you aren't.
You're what us CEO's & Company Founders refer to as an "Intellectual Moron" And you probably see anything in 6 figures as "High Paying" And I bet your ride is one of the most fiscally irresponsible investments a car buyer can make: eg; Corolla, Accord, Camry, Oddessy, Sienna, CRV, etc.
So you don't need a truck; so what. I don't need a wheelchair, but I also don't go around saying that everybody who sits around in one is a lazy redneck!

Grow up! –you arrogant self-absorbed pseudointellectual! A degree is hardly an indicator of COMMON SENSE.

I got a good chuckle out of it as well.

    That poster is funny.

  18. So, what Chrysler is doing is showing AGAIN that it can't produce a quality product on their own.

    Follow me:

    1. Mitsubishi: Chrysler partnered with DSM because they needed platforms, engines, and components that they couldn't produce themselves. What they got in return was terrible engines, transmissions, and vehicles overall from Mitsubishi.

    2. Mercedes: This was a high point for them. After Daimler Chrysler, they put out some of their highest quality vehicles that were actually competitive and something consumers WANTED.

    3. Fiat: Fiat can't produce a reliable vehicle on their own, and neither can Chrysler. At least Fiat can make a decent small vehicle. I don't see this being a recipie for success.

Moral of the story? Chrysler can't make a vehicle on their own that is worth a shit. Without Mercedes and the platform from the previous E class, the 300, Charger, Challenger, etc wouldn't be here and Chrysler would be dead already.

They should just close their doors and apologize to their workers.

  19. November 9, 2009 10:22 AM There's more than 1 guy working at Chrysler. And as people come & go, so goes the quality of the product. If the past were such a great predictor of the future, GM would still be 100x's bigger than Toyota; and Honda & Toyota would still be the quality leaders across the board. When people change, companys change– and procuct changes. It'll be interresting to see what happens next.
