BYD to be number 1 in the world by 2025

Last Updated:

That’s the joke of the day!

Chinese car maker BYD claims they will become the number one car manufacturer in the world by the year 2025.

Here are the words from the company:
“It’s our company’s long-term target, to be China’s No. 1 automaker by 2015 and to be the world’s leading car maker by 2025″

Good luck with that….

  1. It's good to have goals. 🙂

And remember, people would have laughed their asses off if Toyota has said this in the 1960's.

    Yet here they are.

The only thing that might be off is the timeline, and probably not by that much.

Keep in mind – with China's population, they won't have to sell a whole lot outside of their own country to put up some humongous sales numbers.

  2. I see they changed their BMW aping logo to rip of the KIA logo.

Anyhow, good luck on your goals… you will need a whole lot of it.

Hyundai is in a great position to be #1. As for you BYD, keep on copying.

From what I can tell from my trip to China, owning a car looks to be more of a pain in the ass than it's worth. Traffic was absolutely disgusting, there's no road rules, parking is impossible and there's road taxes everywhere.

Unlike here in North America, their transit system is world class and supper efficient, not to mentions dirt cheap.

I think owning a car in China is more of a status than a convenience.

  4. Of course it is a very ambitious goal, but one thing – maybe some here in this blog even do not consider enough yet (by the way: investment-guru Warren Buffett owns a big share in it since beginning of the year and VW became a partner not long ago too)- is, that BYD has a big asset that no european or american car manufacturer has: It is one of the top / most developed rechargeable battery makers in the world…

No doubt, this Cantonese company can make it to the top!

Gai Yau from Switzerland to my Guangdong Ren friends!!!

Believe me, you will own a Chinese car someday, because China owns US.

Read up on the history of the Lincoln Highway. You'll find that you just described roads in the United States of that era (approximately 1900-1920) to a 'T'.

It'll come, and when it does, it will seem to happen overnight.

  7. That's a long way away. As Toyota showed us; anything can happen.

They laughed even harder at Toyota 30yrs ago when they planned to be the largest automaker

Everyone also laughed when they decided to make trucks. Now look where we are!

  8. Why not! Who would have thought Toyota has done it back in the early 70s or that Kia and Huyndai are catching up in just 10 years time.

Buick are being built in China so you will never know. I am having all my children learning Mandarin because it is their future, no matter how sad it would be 🙁

  9. which country is the biggest auto consumer in the world right now?

    (hint, not US)

which coutry has the larget population and it's currently increasing the number of automobiles on the road by 1 million per month?

    (hint, not US)

people around the world like US cars, especially the same type of cars that americans like such as the best selling ford F150, american car companies do very well in other markets true of false?

    (hint, not true)

just because you don't see it happening in america doesn't mean it is not happening. do your calculations, no one in this world(other than dumb fat american who think they need a ford f150 to haul 3 bags of groceries once a week and move a couch 2 blocks away once every 2 years) with the option to choose otherwise will buy a domestic US car. you go to japan, ppl drive japanese cars, you go to europe, ppl drive european cars. Chinese are actualy fortunately enough to have more than enough domestic competitors from the get-go. and they are fortunately enough to have enough domestic market so they can become number one in the world without bothering to make trucks/suvs designed to sell to fat americans.
