All new VW Polo

Last Updated:

These are the first official pictures.
Nothing breathtaking, but like i said before, it does look like a pretty high quality interior. Similar to what they have in the Rabbit. Just in a smaller size.

  1. terrible, it looks like a 2005 something. it is extremely outdated. i cant believe they want to sell this in the states

  2. i disagree, i like it. i’m glad not everyone is getting caught up in the overstyled look of so many new cars with massively rising window lines. and it’s not a dorky looking thing like Yaris/Micra

  3. Unmistakeably german!!! Very classic, very solid, but a tiny little bit boring. I can’t wait for the GTI model.

  4. How ever much they charge for it, what will be included free of charge (other than paying with your soul) is the VW dealer / sales and service experience. And the reliability…

  5. This is very sophisticated for VW. VW has a new image now. It’s not these bubbly cars with no sophistication thanks to the influence from the ugliest car which is the VW beetle and somebody’s stupid idea of retro futurism which got gm, ford, and chrysler into this whole mess they are in right now. What the hell is retro futurism anyway. That is the biggest BS ever and a unforgivable excuse for being lazy with creativity. Recreating a classic should be avoided. Everyone knows that. Why is ford not doing it anymore because they know it is not working! You know why there are so many european cars not selling in the US because everyone knows the US customer lacks a huge amount of sophistication. The new upcoming VW polo, and golf are revolutionary cars that will change VW. Once people realize that bigger busier and uglier is not better they will be looking for smart well though out meaningful designs like this Polo.

  6. lemme guess those that don’t like this car would rather drive the shanghai auto show appropriate infiniti essence? What is infiniti thinking??? THis is a EUROPEAN AUTO SHOW idiots. They should be ashamed to bring that car to europe. VW polo is awesome

  7. “You know why there are so many european cars not selling in the US because everyone knows the US customer lacks a huge amount of sophistication. “

This person wins for the most uneducated response ever. Way to lump 300 million people into the same group.

    What an moronic comment.

European cars, VW in particular, don’t sell as well because they are horribly unreliable and their price points are outrageous. Their product mix is boring and overpriced. Why would you buy a $38,000 Passat when you could buy an Infiniti, Lexus, or even its corporate twin the A4? Why would you buy a $26,000 Jetta when you can get an Accord or a even an A3???

Americans have a different mentality, it has absolutly nothing to do with “sophistication”.

Please, go back to school and educate yourself.

  8. wow, very groundbreaking, just like porsche. Are you kidding, these german pieces of crap have looked the same since the 1978 rabbit, yes same with Porsche….same old garbage

  9. “Gaetano Fierri said: Wow, very groundbreaking, just like porsche. Are you kidding, these german pieces of crap have looked the same since the 1978 rabbit, yes same with Porsche….same old garbage”

I am german and read this and the discussion above with very mixed feelings. If you don´t like the Polo, then buy something else, Gaetano.

The “new” Polo isn´t on my favourites list as well, but for different reasons. But, you know, I´ve driven a Polo for years, my mom loves her Golf and so we know by eyperience, how good or bad their product quality is.

“German pieces of crap” is definitly the wrong description.

  10. I am pretty sure I’d take the Honda Fit over this. Its cost to own will be significantly lower, it should be more fun to drive, it will have better resale value, and it will without a doubt be more reliable.

VW has turned into a trash automobile. Ask anyone who has ever owned one. FOUR VW products have been lemoned where I work, two Touaegs, a Passat, and an A4.

  11. i know it’s pretty boring, but i like it. very simple, strong shapes, solid looking.
VW reliability is a separate issue, try and stay on topic.

  12. I like the look of this Polo. I think VW is going the right way in keeping the lines simple but modern. They don’t need to push the envelope, just keep the design fresh and undated.

Some might say boring but I see a car that will stand the test of time. The bloated bulbous looking Focus and Fiestas will be outdated looking and just plain tired in 5 years time. This will still look good.

  13. American car designers have alot to learn from their euro/jap competitors. Most importantly — STOP making such ugly box looking cars (ex. flex, caliber, journey, magnum, challenger, etc etc the list goes forever). They have no aerodynamics at all, poor quality interior materials (plastic), Cheap and Boring looking !!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. It looks old, boring and far, far too “serious” for a car this size. If this gives the Fiesta any worries, there is no justice in the world.

  15. Now that the 2009 Focus has been quieted down to pre-2010 Fusion levels (trust me, I own one and it is the quietest car this size I have owned), the manufacturers need to bring the “B” class segment (Polo, Yaris, Scion xA, Fit, Aveo, Fiesta) down to the old Golf/Focus levels. The Versa is the only one I’ve owned that was really quiet.

The Yaris, xA, and Fit I owned were just a “tad” too noisy and squirrelly for my long-term tastes. Yeah, cars in this size segment generally rock in terms of handling, but commuting 30 miles a day on the freeway in one wears me down. The 2009 Focus doesn’t, yet comes close (at 34 mpg) to the mileage I usually got on the “B’s” (35-37 mpg). And the handling in the Focus still rocks! Better than the 2001 or 2004 Golfs I owned.

And oh yeah, there is no reason to let 5th gear on a manual transmission run 4,000 rpm at 80 mph. Let’s bring the rpm down to 3,250 max. If someone buys a stick shift, they have to realize that a downshift will sometimes be required, even on the freeway; and that no, you shouldn’t be driving on surface streets in 5th gear if you are observing the speed limit.
