Hyundai Genesis details

Last Updated:

So I finally got to see the Genesis in person. And even sat in a couple of them.

No surprises from the pictures, really.

But inside, even though it looks good, it lacks that true luxury car feel.
I can’t explain it, but luxury is more than looks.
The doors don’t feel as heavy and solid as German luxury cars.
What is is basically, is the look and feel of luxury. Not the real thing.

I am sure its a good car. Maybe even a great car for $30 000. And most people getting one won’t even consider a Benz or a BMW.

Nothing has changed: you get what you pay for….

  1. Well, for $30k it only needed to feel as solid as a 3 series and more than a 1..

You may only get what you pay for with a Hyundai around those prices, but you sure as hell do not even get that with a BMW. Thats what happens when the badge becomes a price factor.

  2. I’ve read a lot about this car and am waiting to read reviews about the driving impressions.

I think the jury is still out on whether the Genesis is all that.

  3. I actually like the grill previous to this one….I don’t need a Hyundai symbol in front….or they could have just put it on the hood.

Nowadays 30,000 is the new 20,000 anyway.

  4. I’ve driven the Lexus ES and RX several times, and despite all of the Lexus trappings they come across as expensive Toyotas – from the rather sloppy handling, to the lettering on the controls, to the plastics. On the basis of looks alone, the Genesis is a no-brainer over the more expensisve ES.

  5. Hyundai hasn’t really proven themselves yet in other automotive categories beyond surprising some people with how much they don’t suck anymore. The comparisons to Lexus still illicit chuckles, especially for those who experienced Hyundai “quality” prior to three years ago. The $30k+ pricepoint is hyper-competitive and there are a lot of great cars for that kind of coin. It’s going to take a lot more than a thin luxury veneer to cut it. I’m more interested in the next Genesis because this one isn’t going to change the game much. Each Hyundai model progresses very rapidly, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they get it right in a year or two.

  6. Given the price starts around $30k, I wouldn’t expect it is as good as a S or 7, or even 5 or 3. I think u should compare it with the cars in the same price range. I think it is much better than those. Give them a break, they will have to make a living

  7. Still, even if the Genesis is 90% of a BMW 5 series for 70% of the cost it’s worth it. The best value in the world would be a used Genesis maybe 2 – 3 years old for around 20 grand. For this car that would be a steal!

Shhhhh! Don’t give away my secret plan! 🙂

  9. Anyone going Genesis over any Lexus is a no-brainer alright.
Hyundai needs to sell some Elantras and Sonatas. They’re getting killed!
    Stop chasing rainbows!
VW fell down the same flight of stairs last week!
