Ready for a retro Celica Convertible???

Last Updated:

The early RWD Celicas were never offered as a convertible.
This would go nicely against the Mustang and Camaro.

  1. “This would go nicely against the Mustang and Camaro.”

In fact, this thing looks like a cross between a Mustang and Camaro. Evidently Toyota’s idea of going retro is to copy somebody else’s retro.

  2. I agree with the previous poster. This has the looks of the Mustang and Camaro, but none of the pedigree. Few people outside Japan remember the 1st gen Celica, which was a copy of the Mustang anyway. I doubt it would be able to compete in a niche segment where nostalgia value is so important. Toyota, however, does have one beautiful sports car in their history: The 2000 GT of the 60s. A revamp of that would make much more sense, I think.

  3. Those are audi rims, and that’s a photoshopped picture of the Giugiaro Mustang concept car from last year.

If anything, this would be more of a prediction of the next mustang convertible, not a toyota.

Gosh Vince, you sure miss the details.

  4. Early celicas did have these lines, if you look back at ’75 to’77 era, they were quite attractive, but that’s of course when they were built right. In their attempt to cut costs, toyota seems to have sold their souls to the poor quality bug. A rash of recalls and a public scolding by the Japanese Prime minister and An investigation into top toyota execs into hiding recall information. How will it end? I think in a public revolt against them, you?
