Chevrolet Volt

Last Updated:

Bob Lutz claims the Volt will be the “perfect car”.
And we might see it in 2010, or even sooner.
He also talks of 150mpg!

It would be great to see GM cick some serious ass.
The specs mentioned seem far superior to what Toyota might offer in the next Prius.

    We’ll see….
(Let’s just hope it is a bit faster …)

    1. Volt:just like bigfoot, or the lochness monster; believe it when I see it, in person.
If the build it, price it Prius-like MSRP… I’ll be more than glad to look at one.
Until then…. is this just more PR?

    2. I love this video… Watch out Gerdie, I’m going to wind her up to 15!

In all seriousness, if GM can deliver a car that can push 150mpg, I’ll be first in line, I just wonder what kind of numbers they can really deliver. But, at least they’re trying.

I’m really excited to see what the next gen Prius can do, maybe the one good thing these crazy gas prices is that real ideas will start to travel down the pipe now, rather than the same old broken promises.

    3. How many times people are caught off with dead batteries in cellphone and laptop? Beside, in terms of fuel efficency and clean emission, cars are actually much better than coal burning power plants we current have. Who is stupid enough to reduce a minor evil (only 14% of greenhouse gas from cars & trucks) to pump up a major producer (44% from power plants)? Only politics can.

    4. Vince, that’s one slow car. Even the background music makes it sound like it’s geared towards GM’s customers who are currently buying vinyl-roofed Cadillacs in Florida.

    5. Like any concept car, they’re not going to go very fast since it’s just that… a concept car and not meant for production uses. When we start seeing prototypes within the next couple of years, then we’ll see how the production volt can do.
You never see concept cars driven around at fast speeds no matter the company.

Oh.. and if GM was full of shit, I doubt they would still be promoting this technology. It would make them look extremely stupid if they did all that PR and couldn’t deliver. I think some people here just hate the idea of an American company that actually has the potential to have a competitively priced and very efficient 150 mpg hybrid vehicle on the road before Toyota or Honda does.

In this particular case, you couldn’t be more incorrect. GM talks the talk while Toyota and Honda walk the walk.

Toyota and Honda only build gas hogs because Americans want them. GM and Ford build them because they bring in huge profits at the expense of our planet and at the behest of the oil companies that now rule our nation.

Perhaps it is you who hates the idea of another company trumping GM on environmental considerations.

    7. luts is a great american
this car will be grat a nd i hear the evil guys at toyuta are shaking in their boots if that’s what theyre wearing over there

the volt will make americans buy american again
i am sure toyota will have major delays on their girly looking hybrid afterthis one comes out.
its about time they give up
