Next Scion xA

Last Updated:

Although they might be using another name for it.
It will still be based on the Toyota ist sold in Japan.

The ist/xA will be all new and might even be offered in the US with a new, more powerful 1.8 Liter engine.

  1. From Cars.com:

“Scion, Toyota’s hip offshoot, will debut a redesigned version of its popular xB and the all-new xD — which replaces the outgoing and not-so-popular xA — in Chicago next month.”

    Also:

“Toyota announced today that it would debut its redesigned 2008 Highlander and Highlander Hybrid SUVs on Feb. 7 at McCormick Place.”

The upcoming Chicago auto show should be a happening place…

  2. The thing looks like a Chinese car!

It appears that Scion is trying to duplicate( badly) the Suzuki SX4? See the rear “wrap around” windows, the general shape of the body, the front end?
Suzuki is 3rd in Japan( thanks to those micro-cars, Kei cars), so , is Tiyota trying to beat them at their own game by using Diahtsu’s ugly-knockoffs?

The current model barely sold 30,000 last year, and only due to $3-3.50 per gallon of gas.
If gas is 2 per gallon, or less, this won’t sell hardly at all, I bet.
I’d rather drive an Accent SE!

  3. Look, they built a car (especially) for Ugly Betty! lol. An Ugly Toyota/Scion! Maybe it,too, will be a hit like the Ugly Betty Show?

  4. Toyota’s Urban Cruiser concept this is NOT!
    Figures!
Why bother with concepts if they aren’t going to follow through? This is just awful.

  5. look pretty much like a “skoda roomster gone SUV”.

this car is pretty ugly for a sucessor to the xA… does SCION have any intentions to develop a design one would associate with this brand.

  6. hahaha…

i went to the miami preview unveiling, and um… that is NOT the xD — which is replacing the xA

  7. Looks nice, a bit Nissan X-trail and Mitsubishi Outlander like from the back and side. Good overall for the price.

  8. The bottom picture looks like a mini-Mercedes M-Class SUV, and the top picture looks like a Suzuki SX4 (or whatever that thing is called).

  9. It was obvious to me, but I gyess not to everyone: this is just an illustration.
    Not a picture from Toyota.

Good luck waiting to see another gallon for $2 or less…

Vince, I had forgot that you live in California!
I paid, in SW Ohio, $1.78 a gallon, for regular unleaded on Thursday, then they rasied the prices( must be pay-day weekend)… to 2.29 on Friday, then late Saturday, prices “fell” to 2.09 ( at Shell), to $1.98 @ Speedway .
A friend of mine said in NW Indiana( about 30 miles southeast of Chicago) gas was $1.95 on Thursday pm(when we spoke).
I forgot the exact week, but about a 1-2 weeks before Christmas, gas was 1.85-1.95, and as low as 1.74-1.64 in some spots of ohio.

You guys pay what, 25-50 cents more per gallon than we do over here?

The highest I have paid in the past 2 months out here is 2.39 per gallon!
It was even(briefly) 1.99 per gallon last September, at Speedway.

I think it has been an avg of 2.19 per gallon in the past month.

    take care/not offense.

  11. ya i paid 2.81 a gallon today in so cal, and a barrel of oil is down to 52 bucks and it cost me 60 to fill up thats fucked up ! also people are saying the replacement Xa is ugly as if the original was a beauty ! ( not )..

  12. “Vince, I had forgot that you live in California!”

Amd I forgot you didn’t… Sorry.
Here it is hard to pay less than $2.50 for regular these days.
And it seems to be going up.
So I really don’t think we’ll ever see a gallon for $2 where I live.
Seems that California is always getting screwed about gas.

Welll.. At least, as I am looking outside, the sky looks clear and it will be over 70.

  14. CA screws themselves on gas. The state has special “boutique” requirements for blends based on the season that requires refineries to shut down and retool every few months.

I always thought the xA was far more attractive than the xB. Plus, with all the hype about new B-segment cars in the US (Fit, Versa, etc.) you’d think the xA would have been on the leading edge of the segment’ growth.

It does suck. But those of us who were around in the 70’s remember when you couldn’t see further than a 1/2 mile due to the thick brown smog. The air quality is far better today then it was back then. Even with all the new people added into the mix since then.

  16. Vince,
Hope ya ain’t ticked off at me or anything.
Always enjoy yer site. best on the web!
Also…. you got me here with this:

    —————————–Yeah, it is 7.0 here, too,lol 😉
we might see 40 Monday, and had 3 inches of snow today.
thanks a lot, Vince! lol 😉

Hey, is it cooler up in Petaluma(Northern CA) than where you are at(if I recall my trips up to Petaluma….Santa Rosa, it is usually a little chillier).

    Petaluma is farmer country, aint
    it?

70….. won’t see that here until… ohhh, maybe earlu April.
(we did set a record of 65 degrees, 2 weeks ago, right around new years! Now is pay back time, it appears).
    take care/not offense.
hey, ya forgot, ya also have the Ocean near by, don’t ya?
All we have is the 2nd largest manmade lake in the worldm un in Cleina/St Marys( corsses 2 cities, if you can call them that)….. about 13 miles wide, 7 miles in length, 24_+_ miles drive around the whole lake.
It’s brown, though( I wouldn’t swim in it, lol, or eat the fish!).
    lol.
    take it easy, Vince.
    tC

  17. I saw the real thing, the car in this picture is not the xD (they will stop calling it xA btw) that we are going to get. The new car looks similar to the current model except it is a bit longer and wider.

  18. Vince, let’s hope that the new Scions will be built right here in North America, and not in Japan, to keep the costs down and increase volume and quality. We need more fast selling models to be built here to help create more jobs and a better economy!

  19. Vince, here’s a link to gas prices in Indiana and Illinois( NW Indiana,NE Illinois)….https://www.theautochannel.com/news/2007/01/18/034503.html2.29 was the highest, and one was 1.97. The rest 2.08-2.19, give or take a penny here or there. It was 2.11( I guess friday?)….in Lake County, IN( I posted another reply and said I spoke to a firend thursday and gas was 1.95 there…. pya day weekened= pump price raise !).Anyhow, yes, gas can be had for around 2.00 per gallon, sometimes under, out here in the Midwest( and I am sure other places, also).Vince…. maybe you should move out here? Save you some money on rent( I know it’s cheaper here), gas, food, you name it!;-)Anyhow…. out here, even the Prius sales have slowed down some.(too many large SUV’s here, though, as one part of SW Ohio is “GM/Ford” 8 ton SUV country, still….which I’d -personally- would rather see more small vehicles on the road).take care/not offense.
