Especially the part that compares the Neon with the Caliber.
This one is already a classic.
This is what most people now think of Chinese car safety...
One we don't get over here.
Another scary Chinese result.
Let's hope Chery improves, a lot, before we get their next model as a small Dodge....
the cheapest European car does better, if not great....
Volvo VS. Volvo.
The old BUG seemed like a death trap. Interesting to see that the much more modern 1st generation Golf was actually not really safer. At least from watching this....
I still have some hope this might make it to production (even thoughh I have no personal need for a pick up).
If I remember correctly (and I always do...), the FJ Cruiser turned out really close to the concept.
So why not....
Just being redesigned, with its close cousin, the Citroen Berlingo.
Another one of these small delivery vans turned into passenger cars.
They are all pretty cute and roomy. Just like the Renault one I posted a few weeks ago.
We'll never see them. But VW has one too. And especially Ford. Who claimed a few months ago they were seriously thinking about importing it over here. That and the new Mondeo.
I haven't heard anything since....

Subaru will sell an electric version of their tiny R1 model in 2009.
So by that time, it might actually even be a redesigned version. The picture here is of the current R1.
The electric model will be able to reach 62mph with a 50 miles range.
Which is actually enough for a lot of commuters. And you can recharge it to 80% of its capacity in just 8 minutes.
Nothing about prices yet. they were talking about $17 000 after a couple of years in production. And even coming down to $13 000 later if production increases.
That would make it the "affordable electric car"....

Looks pretty realistic for an illustration.
The current CLK looks nice, but not that upscale for what they're asking for.
This one should look a it more expensive.
But I have seen spy pics of the interior, and that is shaping up to be pretty ugly.
About as square as the new GLK and the next E class.
It's too bad Mercedes has decided to rely exclusively on the use of rulers for their upcoming interior car designs...
At first it looks like a Toyota Ridgeline. But I don't think the Ridgeline is such a huge hit for Honda in the 1st place.
So I'm not sure this will make it into production at all.
And if it does, it could be toned down so much it would look this cool.
But I have to say, I really like this concept. Finally a pick up truck that looks like it was designed in the 21st Century...

This is supposed to come to Europe at the end of 2008.
But, somehow, it might end up in New Zealand before that. Where it could be sold for the equivalent of about $18 000.
Keep in might that, over there, the Civic Hybrid is about $ 25 000 and the Prius is around $29 000.
So the Rio is a really good deal.
It could be sold here for something like $15 000.
But it seems that it is one of these "light" or "lame" hybrids. Where the car never run on electric power alone.
We'll find out more later....
This is still just an illustration, but it looks great.
The sport version of the new 500 is rumored to get up to 150hp. That is quite a lot for such a small car.
And I hear, if the 500 ends up in the US (Through Maserati dealers), the Abarth version would definitely make it over here.
Some are even suggest it might be the only version we get....

And it looks really similar to the concept we saw last year.
Still looking really nice with its Italian design.
It will be poered by a 3.0 Liter V6 with 200hp.
But from what I see on the left column, it looks like most of you will "never consider" a Chinese car.

Let start with a bad one...
A Chinese one....
Another Chinese one...
A cute one...
A familiar one...
Another pretty bad looking one...
Now for the safer Euro version...
Now watch this one .
I mean, really watch what happens to the Mustang windshield that doesn't happen on other convertibles.
And remember this is at 35mpg.
So people should be ashamed....

The new Tata will be cost between $2500 and $3000.
This is still just an illustration, the car is supposed to come out in a few weeks.
It actually looks better than I thought it would.
I hear they have a connection with Fiat. That could explain the decent design.
I know what everyone is thinking. Chinese cars suck, cheap copies etc...
I am sure this car isn't as good as the previous generation Corolla it tries to copy.
But it doesn't really look that far off, does it?
The Corolla looks pretty bad on its own. The copy doesn't look much worse.
Byd will be at the Detroit show next month. Not sure if the F3 will be there or not.
Let say they pass all safety regulations, the drive is pretty decent and the reliability turns out to be at least average.
Would you buy one?
And how much would you spend?
$11 000, $10 000, $8000???
At what price does it become OK to get a Chinese car?
But of course, not in the US
I saw the new Twingo last time I was in Europe. And it is a nice little car. Not as original as the 1st one, the with a much higher quality.
They are rumored to squeeze almost 150hp in this tiny RS version. It should be fast and fun.

Seems that most of you would trust me to run Chrysler.
That is great news for the entire automobile industry.
When I get the job, I promise to make sure Chrysler comes out with good looking cars people actually want to buy.
No more cheap 1980's interiors either...
I saw the Journey at the Auto Show, and it's not one of these cars that looks "better in the flesh".
I don't really see the point of getting this over anything else. The interior is better than the Caliber but that's not really a compliment.
It still looks like a rather cheap 80's interior.
-SE starts at $19 985. With a 2.4 Liter engine.
-SXT starts at $22 985. AWD is $25 530
-R/T starts at $26 545. AWD is $28 295
The US does not get the new Dual-Clutch transmission. This one only goes with the, also Europe only, 2.0 Liter Diesel.
But Europe does not get the 3.5 Liter V6.
I guess they have to update things once in a while.
Even it they don't need to be.
The only think the RX-8 needs for me would be a larger choice of interior colors.
They had a limited edition version last year with a light leather interior and it looked great.
I drove one when they came out and loved it.
VW is introducing in Europe a 7 speed version of their amazing DSG automatic transmission.
On both the Jetta and the Golf.
Which means we should see it over here soon on the R32, GTI and Jetta GLI.
The 6 speed version offered now is already the best auto I remember driving. The 7 speed should be really amazing with better mileage.
