Call me crazy, but at least on these picture, that is one fantastic interior.

  1. No comment about your craziness, but they should not offer red. It makes the car look very gordy looking
    with the grill, gold emblem and lights. The picture of the car in grey helps balance everything out a little bit more.
    As far as the interior, Vince, I see that you like Chevy interiors(HHR) but it is ok. I think the Opel/Saturns
    will look even better.

  2. Great interior. I like the rims on the grey car. I too don’t like the taillights. Overall nice car. The big question is now, what’s going to happen to the Aura? This Malibu, I’m sure will have a lower msrp than the Aura, and then on top of that you’ll be able to negotiate the price $1500-$2000 lower than that, and then on top of that the Malibu’s interior is nicer than the Aura’s, AND THEN ON TOP OF THAT, and please correct me if I’m wrong, I believe you can bring your Malibu to a Saturn dealer for repair since they are both GM. I said it before, the Malibu is going to be the Aura’s biggest competion.

  3. Vince, you are crazy. But that is irrelavant- it IS a good looking interior. The wrap around trim theme and instrument binnacle is very sporty and interesting to look at. If their quality is there then the whole package is really top notch. Just what GM needs.

  4. what is going to happen to the aura? lookin at the malibu and the aura i think i would pick the aura….though the interior of the malibu looks better than the aura but still looks similar to the aura interior only if gm offer a navigation and dual climate….this car is a lot better than the old one but for some reason may be its the pictures or that ugly red…it doesnt have the charm of the aura……people saying whats going to happen to aura….think about the styling aspects of both cars….would you want the ugly rear end or the good looking aura…..but maybe i should wait till i look at this new malibu in person i m in love the aura its hot specially in person but yea this is a lot better than the old one

  5. That is one American car that COULD sell to the world, at least on the basis of looks and presentation. I’d say its the first decent looking Malibu ever and the best looking Chev in many years.

  6. ntliioI look forward to seeing this car in person BUT in this photo it screams Galant or Diamante. Is it A Good Thing ™ to be associated with Mitsubishi these days? Why does the Aura exterior seem more eye pleasing and says “handsome” and “quality” while the Chevy says “Mistubishi”? The interior reminds me clearly of my ’94 Mustang (red/black), which may please some.

  8. I don’t think the red color is ugly…

    Interior is much improved from the 2007 model, which would be questionable in a car with half the price. There is noticeable torque steer with the current Malibu and the pushrod engines are kind of thrashy, other than that, I have few complaints about the driving experience of the current car.

    Reliability was awful on the redesigned 2004 models (not sure if they’ve worked out the bugs yet). I hope they get the kinks worked out before they start producing this one.

  9. My 2 cents:

    I agree that parts of this Malibu resemble design features from other cars…BUT who really cares? This is a nice, sporty, modern car and it will probably sell well against the other US entries in it’s segment, if priced right…And possibly do well against the “2nd tier” Asian entries like Mazda, Hyundai and Kia.

    Chevy should keep the 3.5 V6 around as a mid-range step up for volume though. Without it, there will probably be a gaping hole in the middle of the line up, price and equipment-wise…and the 3.6/6A combo will probably be costly.

    It is good to see Chevy will not be making the same mistake that Pontiac made by not offering a base 4cyl out of the gate.

    Pity about the “Maxx” departing though. I thought it was interesting.

    I still like the current Impala’s styling better, with which Malibu shares a few elements, but I am biased as I am an Impala owner. The Malibu’s interior wins hands down though.

    This has to be 5 or 6 cents by now…

  10. LT5 Eddie, maybe they’ll bring out a hatch version later?? Hope some day soon, some mfg. does that in the midsize class… it’s about time!

  11. While this is not the most revolutionary design, this is the smartest looking Chevy I’ve ever seen. It’s much more athletic looking than the awkward Camry or the frumpy Accord. I am glad GM didn’t worry about dumbing-down the design of the Malibu over concern of cannibalizing Aura sales. Both cars have a distinctive look and both have very strong design integrity. And since when is having two good choices a bad thing? The interior is very nice, and while I am no fan of faux wood, it appears to be used sparingly for those people who must have it instead of metallic finish.

    No one will miss the old Malibu, or any previous one for that matter… but I am sad to see the Maxx go away. It was a brilliant idea, but executed on a dowdy car. I would like to see the hatch version on the new Malibu or, more appropriately, the SAAB 9/3. Any word on an SS version of this Malibu?
