2008 Nissan GT R

Last Updated:

The legendary GT R will return in late 2007.
And for the 1st time, will go on sale in the US.
Depending on pricing, it could go directly against the Corvette.

They are already talking about at least 450hp! And it looks pretty good to.
Almost exactly the same as the last concept they showed us.
I am not sure if this will be sold here as a Nissan or Infiniti. (they keep going back and forth).
That would also influence US pricing.

  1. legendary or not, it’s pug ugly. They took the neat concept car of a few years back and couldn’t resist meddling with it. So old school Japanese of them.

  2. Le Québécois

    For the Canadian market…
Sale as Nissan for 80 000$ (can).
    V6 twin turbo 450 @ 500 hp.
In the showroom this spring !

  3. It’s already been decided that it’ll be sold as a Nissan. They even call it the “Nissan GT-R” on the Nissan US website.

  4. this car will not compete with the corvette it will be priced above the corvette is what all the mags have been saying, besides the old one was priced above the corvette as well, it will be more an nsx type of car probably 70-80,0000

  5. yup, this is it, it will eat up corvettes and porches alike, but I agree, it doesn’t look the part. it will be a nissan. needs a style re-do before it hits. Sergio Pininfarina or Giorgetto Giugiaro need to get involved soon!!!

  6. Le Québecois : Où habites-tu?

I think it should be sold as an Infiniti… Giving some more prestige to that brand that still need some pushing…

As a Nissan, it would be confused with the 350Z.

  7. Great looking car.

I guess they decided that GT-R would be more profitable under Nissan name and I would agree.

At $50k+ (based on the last GT-R), it’s a not going to be on everybody’s shopping list.

By keeping it under Nissan, it will definitely appeal more to the hardcore fans who would’ve other been turned off by an Infiniti badge, at the same time giving Nissan a halo vehicle.

300zx used to be the Nissan’s halo throughout the 90s until they cheapened the design and slashed the price on the new model. It makes me wonder if Mazda will come up with a true Rx-7 replacement any time soon.

  8. it will be between 85 and 88,ooo $ it will not be confused with the 350 at half the price, but one must wonder why a nissan. i agree, it should be 100% infiniti

  9. I HATE that black shnoz on the front of this thing. But the rest of it looks really good. 450hp with all wheel drive…the Viper and the Z06 are gonna get a run for their money.

  10. I’m not sure it will be $80-$85,000 range, especially under Nissan badge. The only thing more ridiculous than a $60k Nissan is an $85k Nissan.

There certainly would be no reason to price it significantly higher than Japanese domestic market.

My bet is it will start south of $60k.

  12. At 80K its in Z-06 territory. I’m wondering how this AWD beast will go against what should be a lighter Vette with 50 more HP.

And Chevy is supposedly going to put 50 more HP in the base Vette in ’08.

That said, I WANT ONE. I’ve always wanted one.

  13. Wow, 50 more horses in the base vette huh? I wonder if thats the 6.2 with cylinder deactivation and vvt. That would be awesome. I’m a huge fan of vettes. I have to admit though that the vettes handicap is gonna be traction compared with the GT-R. I just think of those Lingenfelter vettes with 700hp and although they can break 200mph as easily as I can inhale a twinky, they are real tricky to launch off the line…possible advantage GT-R in 0-60 acceleration. It’ll also be interesting to see how they’ll be modified by the aftermarket.

  14. It looks ugly, in an immature kind of way.

It screams, “Look at me! Look at me! I’m really fast!”

IMO, the old R-34 Nismo still looks 3x better than this ‘half-and-half’ design.

The sheet metal design got that boy racer look; an abuse/insult to the wonderful Nissan VQ engine and all the tuning works they’ve perfected over the years.

  15. My god that sloping roofline is hideous, the rubbermaid looking front end wasn’t much to look at ether.

Skyline will probably become a namesake for balding mid-life crisis rather that boy racer-enthusiast. All the performance in the world can’t save a priced-jumped model from that fate (as $45k seems to be the credit limit for the typical under thirtyfive set).
