Toyota Smart???

Last Updated:

Toyota is planning a super small car to compete with the Smart.
Although it is not due before 2008. It could use a 1.0 Liter engine as well as a 1.3 Liter.
This picture is obviously just a test mule.

And who knows, if Smart does well enough in the US, we might even get this one.
Maybe as a Micro Scion.

  1. Here’s the perfect way to die on the road.. Get hit by an SUV in this and you’ll have a permanent indentation….

Way too small for American roads…

  2. seriously, lets downsize our unnecessarily huge suvs and have this in the states, and lets call it the toyota starlet.

  3. of course, Smart cars are made after Kei cars, small Japanese cars that are very popular there.

MB tried to copy that concept for Europe but it didnt work out that well…

  4. This “anonymous ” guy is very smart. Tell me – you are buying a lot of metal just because you might have an accident? Civic is much smaller than a Tahoe and will not roll on and you’ll avoid an accident much easier. Remember, it’s not just the car ; is the diver as well

  5. This is NOT the Aygo.
This model is actually smaller than the Aigo! Like the Smart is.
Aigo is 3 and 5 door. This will be way to small to get rear doors.

While the driver may be important, keep in mind it’s not the vehicle that makes the driver safe, but the driver that makes the vehicle safe. That being said, who would you rather shere the road with – an SUV driver observing the rules of the road, or some barnstorming boyracer in a hopped up Civic driving like he’s the only car on the street?

  7. the civic drive because at least i can see around and ahead of him.

whatever happened to not hitting shit – since when did we become so obsessed with what happens _when_ we get into an accident? How about _never_ getting into an accident by driving a car with decent handling?

  8. I can’t imagine that Aygo buyers will go to Toyota dealers and complain about its size or fuel consumption. Why bother? I guess this could be Toyota’s ultimate plug-in hybrid that can go around town with fuel consumption of a scooter. In another word, this is the SMART car that mercedes-benz intended to build 20 years ago.

  9. You are right, Vince, this is way smaller than the Aygo. Like you, I did hear that a sub-Aygo car is being planned.

  10. oh toyota please bring this car out soon! i want one of these right now!-suvsuxhttps://www.edmunds.com/appraisal/
