Acura RL/Honda Legend Coupe

The next RL might, on top of getting a V8 with RWD, get a coupe version as well.
I guess they figure there is a market for expensive coupes. Like the CLK or the 6 series.
This illustration shows an OK design. But nothing striking, like the BMW 6.

I think this looks a lot better than the 6. Very clean and Acura-looking, not a copy.

Maybe I was wrong, but I thought Acura is having a hard time selling the RL sedan. If that’s the case, why a RL coupe?
that really looks great. from what i can see, the sides look alot like a mercedes coupe. I hope honda really starts putting sporty looking cars back in their lineup like in the early 90’s (Integra, Legend coupe, crx, etc.) If only the new accord could resemble this.
Agree with Vince , looks like everything else out there now. Nothing new.
not a bad idea at all, looks pretty good, there’s alot of segments that japanese makers aren’t hitting up, such as, the large luxury coupe market, so of course, more competition, means more choices and better cars for us consumers
I think this design looks great, besides all spy pictures of Mercedes always look bland until the real thing shows up. I think Acura is doing this because people like me have been begging for an Acura Convertible since the great Legend coupe. So why not have two trims and let the people choose between a convert/or a coupe?
And Vince, the only thing striking about the BMW6 design is that it’s ugly and very unlike BMW looking in every angle. The thing looks like an Altima and a Hyundai. I think the 3series and the M5 art the only two cars that look good with that new design they have going.
3series, because it’s small
and M5 because of the body kits.
If this is accurate, this future RL is one of Honda’s better design attempts. Of course given what we’ve seen of Honda’s future designs, a shopping cart is a step up. But RWD and V8 powered? Knowing Honda, it’ll be a V6 and an Accord-based FWD platform. Yaaaaawn.
i agree the cant sell the rl coupes are an even smaller niche why bother…..the rl is way to expensive (why is it priced up with the v8 competitors and more than some like the m and sts, when both cars v6 models have just about as much power) and i imagine this thing would be to “if” produced. acura should work on styling first the rl looks like a 4 door version of he last cl, which also was boring and totally vanilla…the old legend coupe i liked

These things are always horrible. They all look like cheap adds ons. A design should work without added spoilers, wings, skirts etc…
The 3 looks too clumbsy and cheap to me. The rear end especially.
About the Acura, I think a coupe should try to be more than a 2 door sedan, otherwise people will just buy the sedan.
The 6 is more than a 5 coupe.
And yes, the RL is way over price (even though it is a great car). And they don’t even try to push it with cheaper leases.

I really like the design, but the Grand Am-looking foglight setup has to go.
The last truly nice looking Acura/Honda product was the 2nd gen Legend. Since than, their designs have been going downhill. Fast.

I doubt if Acura will come up with RL coup fir the current generation model, yes, its a possibility with the next generation model around 2010 but not for the current model. I have lot of respect and admiration for Acura and Honda, current RL looks great for a sedan but the looks are not sporty enough for the coup and it looks very boring.

Acura has always done their best to come up with cutting edge technology, quite franctly the big 3 US auto makers are only now catching up with standards acura already had as standard equipment 10 years ago, And as far as the Euro’s il take a Acura any day over a BMTrubbleU’s, or Mercedies Bended, Ive owned them All guess which one still running with still all oe parts on it the Acura! Sorry folks it just a plain fact, love it or leave it.
It is difficult to tell the scale from the image, but I wonder if this isn’t actually the TSX coupe concept Acura has planned for the upcoming autoshow season. It would make sense for such a concept to take on RL stying cues. Also, a TSX coupe would make a better business case for itself.
I disagree about the last good looking acura/honda was the legend.
I think the 2nd Gen CL looks great(thats why i own 1) also the 3rd gen TL looks clean. I sure do hope they produce a new sports oriented coupe though( hopefully RWD!!!)
