2007 Grand Cherokee Diesel

Last Updated:

That’s right.
The US will get the 3.0 Liter V6 diesel as an option for 2007.
Not sure if it will make it to California yet.

The diesel has 215 hp but torque similar to a V8. And uses about 30% less gas. They claim 19/23 mpg. So I guess they compare figures with the V8.
But the European press has been less than impressed with the car so far.
The power seems to be fine, but they pretty much all say this is one of the least refined diesel engine in the segment.
(Apparently the diesel in the LR3/Discovery 2 is great…)

With gas at around $3.50 for regular around here, it seems like a good idea anyway.
Chrysler also mentioned they sold about 11 000 Liberty diesel in the States which is more than they expected…

In related news, VW just announced they will stop selling diesel cars in the US in 2007. Their engines will not be able to meet emission standards in all 50 states.
These guys try really hard, don’t they…

  1. You should check before you post crap about VW like that. Who was the only manufacturer with MB that actually offered diesels in USA for past few years?

VWoA will stockpile the 06 models so they can have the solution by the next year for the 08 models to pass ALL states, including California, same thing that Mercedes will do with the BlueTec diesel, even if it takes to work out the solution with feds and urea tanks.

  2. Sorry, Vince. The Jeep uses 100% less “gas” since it’s a diesel.

I know, just a slip of the tongue (and brain).

  3. Your MPG-numbers are totally screwed up, unless the US tests are totally different than European. This car gets 18 city/ 27 highway.

  4. “Your MPG-numbers are totally screwed up, unless the US tests are totally different than European.”

Since a US gallon isn’t the same as a British gallon; yes, they are different.

    Stupid Yank.

  6. HEY CHRYSLER EXECUTIVES: GET YOUR HEADS OUT OF THE TOILET!!! Here’s a NO BRAINER, drop a small diesel into the new Dodge Nitro to compete with hybrids from other companies!!! It would cost thousands less, get almost as many miles per gallon and outsell the competition!!!! Dodge would have a blockbuster killer year in sales and Mother Earth would breathe a little easier!!!

  7. For a V6, those are somewhat dissapointing fuel economy numbers. And diesel costs as much, if not more than gas these days, not to mention diesel models typically cost more than gas models of the same car.

Diesel is not as advantageous as it used to be, unless you need lots of towing power.

“The 3.0 CRD Limited, at £32,895, is a decent punt at an on/off-road Jack-of-all-trades. It doesn’t handle quite with the confidence of BMW’s X5, but it’s over £3,000 cheaper and would give the German a bloody good hiding away from the asphalt.” – Top Gear

    Bad European press?
